 This lively white is in perfect harmony with The Parlotones’ music. It stands out from the rest with an intriguing difference yet with perfect balance. It has an “edge” which makes it intriguing and somewhat exotic but it will appeal to everyone, from the casual quaffer to the conossieur.

 Expect a wine that as Kahn has said “is bursting with tropical fruit, plump pear, luscious litchi and hints of lime. It is a medley of fruit sprinkled with exotic spices and a subtle vanilla scent”. It certainly is a wine for happy, romantic occasions. It has such a personality that it will enliven any occasion and leave everybody searching for the next bottle. It will suit a wide range of foods including all seafood and white meats, but with its light spiciness and lavish fruit it would be a particular treat with lightly spiced Asian dishes.

 It is a blend of Chenin Blanc (60%), Gewurztraminer (25%), Chardonnay (10%) and Viognier (5%) and has the lightest hint of wood. The palate is zippy and fresh with beautifully balanced fruit and acidity.

 To quote Kahn again: “”Push Me to the Floor” has captured special moments in a bottle. Recapture. Create. And feel inspired.”

To follow up on the huge success of Giant Mistake, the band together with the guys from Hands on Wine are hard at work on perfecting this fabulous white blend called Push me to the Floor.

The wine is in the final stages and will be available in Woolworths stores in March.

Hands on Wine will be exhibiting at this year’s WineX in Johannesburg and of course Giant Mistake will be available for everyone to taste. Not only will you and your friends have the opportunity to taste this fantastic creation, you will also have a chance to chat with some of the winemakers that was involved in the winemaking process.

Winemakers Pieter Walser and Pieter-Niel Rossouw will be joining us at the exhibition to answer all your questions about wine. My colleague Siskha and I will be there to meet you and dish out wine for tasting.  We would love for you to come join us.
Watch out for the Hands on Wine stand next to our friends from Woolworths.

WineX will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre Tuesday 27 to Friday 31 October from 17:00 until 21:00.

South African band The Parlotones have just embarked on another world tour but they leave local fans well catered for. This week the group’s own label wine, Giant Mistake, became available at select Woolworths outlets.

Already acknowledged by high-profile pundits, the wine is proving to be every bit as popular, and in demand, as lead singer Kahn Morbee. At an intimate launch held at the Cape Grace couple of weeks ago, members of the band mingled with guests, glass in hand, bowing to praises for more than just their looks and lyrics.

‘Hands on Wine’ is the brain behind the concept, with Allan Mullins (Cape Wine Master from Woolworths) and Pieter Walser (from the Blankbottle fame) providing expert input. Winemakers Hugo Truter and Pieter-Neil Rossouw added their vinous skills to the team. The end result is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (54%), Shiraz (23%), Pinotage (12%) and Cabernet Franc (11%). Walser revealed that every varietal represents a band member. Equating the characteristics of the respective varieties to the strengths of the members’ musical contributions, Walser muses about the Pinotage being “the producer that brings it all together”. Well, a band can’t do without a producer, but maybe the wine could. Pleasant chewy tannins nonetheless, with loads of character on the nose that makes for a beautiful companion when paired to the band’s arresting lyrics.

The wine retails for R79. What a bargain.
